Baseball legend Bill “Spaceman” Lee will be the opening speaker of the 2009-2010 First Wednesdays monthly lecture series alternating between Stanstead College and the Goodrich Memorial Library in Newport, Vt.
The former Boston Red Sox and Montreal Expos pitcher will recount his adventures in professional baseball and share portraits of the colourful characters he’s met along the way. This lecture will take place in Newport on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at 7 p.m. Admission is free.
Other topics to be covered in the Stanstead/Newport series include Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations, the history of the American flag, Plato, Mark Twain and banned books.

The First Wednesdays Lecture Series is a program of the Vermont Humanities Council, taking place on the first Wednesday of the month from October to May across Vermont. Stanstead is the only non-Vermont participant in the program, alternating with the Goodrich Memorial Library in Newport.
