Helen White, Class of 2009, has been recognized for her superb performance on the College Board’s Advanced Placement exams.
Helen, who was the top student in her Grade 12 class, was named an AP Scholar with Distinction, which is granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams. This is the top tier of AP Scholar honours.
She was also named a National AP Scholar (Canada), which is granted to students in Canada who receive an average score of at least 4 on all AP exams taken, and scores of 4 or higher on five or more of these exams.
Last year, AP Canada designated 249 students as AP National Scholars out of 14,339 test takers.
Advanced Placement exams allow students in high school to potentially earn credits in first-year university courses.
Helen wrote AP exams in Physics, Chemistry, Calculus, English, Comparative Politics and Statistics, earning three 4s and three 5s. This gives her a semester’s worth of credits at Bowdoin College, where she has begun her studies in Physics.
