Grade 9 student Lucas Zwaagstra was among those celebrating this past weekend as his Under 15 Hockey Nova Scotia team brought home the gold in their category at the 2009 Atlantic Challenge Cup.

Hockey Nova Scotia defeated Hockey New Brunswick in the gold medal game. During the four-day tournament in Moncton, Lucas scored a goal and three assists.

Lucas is from Bedford, NS and in his first year at Stanstead College. His name will appear on the Atlantic Challenge cup for a second time, as he was part of the Nova Scotia Under 14 team last year that won the gold medal.

The Atlantic Challenge Cup has been held annually since 1996 and serves to crown the Atlantic Branch Championship Teams at the Male Under 14, Male Under 15, Male Under 16, Female Under 15 and Female Under 17 age categories. The tournament brings together the best players in their province to compete together as a team.
In the off-season the cup resides at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.
