Congratulations to Sarah Lefort from Ormstown, Quebec on being named to Canada’s 2011-12 National Women’s Under-18 Hockey Team.
The Grade 12 student will join other young women from across the country to compete at the 2012 IIHF Women’s World Championship in Zlin-Prerov, Czech Republic from December 31 to January 7. She is one of three Quebec players on the 22-person roster.
“The players chosen for Canada’s National Women’s Under-18 Team have proven themselves to be strong and skilled at past Hockey Canada championships and events, as well as with their club and school teams,” said Kalli Quinn, director of female national teams for Hockey Canada. “We congratulate these young athletes on making it to the international stage.”
“We’re extremely excited about the talented team that will represent Canada at the 2012 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 Women’s World Championship,” added head coach Pierre Alain. “These players bring great chemistry to the ice and will work hard to bring home gold from the Czech Republic to help start the new year off right.”
This is just the latest success for Sarah, who last February travelled to Halifax, N.S. with Spartan teammate Maxie Plante (2011) to compete with Team Quebec at the Canada Games.
Last season, Sarah helped lead the Spartans to their first NAPHA championship, leading the team in points. Early in the 2011-12 season, Sarah is once again the points leader, with 14 goals and 3 assists in 8 games.
Looking forward, Sarah recently committed to Division I Boston University for 2012-13.
