FARM HOUSE

The farm dwelling located at the far end of the college campus looks like a fairly modern building. But did you know it has been around for more than a half century?

The Farm House, as we refer to it now, was at one time an old barn located where LeBaron Hall is now. It was moved to its new site about 50 years ago and was made into a duplex.

The first inhabitants of this house were Mr. Martin and his family; Mr. Martin lived in this house with his family for about 30 years and worked as a farmer for the college. Up until the mid-fifties, the area used now as a soccer field was a field of crops which Mr. Martin took care of.

When he died, his son Ernie, who also worked as a maintenance man for the College, lived in the house for about eight years. While he was living in the house, the other side of the duplex was occupied by the head of the maintenance crew, Mr. Van Trevail.

The Trevails lived in the house for 6 years with Ernie, and for the remaining two years that Ernie Martin resided in the house, various groups of students occupied the other half.

The Farm House has been used by many members of staff and their families and also by students. Who would have perceived that this modern building was ever a barn?
