It is with great sadness that the Stanstead College community learned of the accidental death Friday, January 27 of one of our students, Ayk Saakyan, while skiing during a Winter Carnival trip to Mont Orford.
On behalf of the school, I wish to express our deepest and most sincere sympathies to Ayk’s family at this extremely difficult time.
A resident of Moscow, Russia, Ayk was a Grade 10 student in his second year at Stanstead College. He was a member of Stanstead’s cross-country running team, the swim team and the rugby team. He was a well-liked and active young man and will be greatly missed by all of us.
Our priority is to provide support to Ayk’s family and to the entire Stanstead community. We have arranged for grief counselors to be on hand throughout the weekend to help our students and staff deal with this tragic loss.
The school will hold a memorial service this Thursday, February 2 at 11 a.m. at Centenary United Church.
