The Good Doctor
By Neil Simon, based on the stories of Anton Chekhov
The Good Doctor is a series of vaudevillian scenes first produced on Broadway in 1973 based on the short stories of Anton Chekov: a working class man sneezes on his boss’s head, a lady of the house settles accounts with her governess, a Casanova tries his charm on his friend’s wife, an eager dental student pulls a tooth, a banker with gout deals with an overzealous client, a desperate young actress auditions, and two lonely older people fantasize about getting together.
All the stories are the creation of the writer who throughout the play contemplates the pitfalls of writing as a career. The humour is over the top, interjected with poignantly serious moments.
The cast of The Good Doctor consisted of Natasha Podd (Grade 8) of Rouse’s Point, NY; Francis Williams (Grade 11) of Stanstead, Qc; Diego Lecanda (Grade 11) of Las Aguilas, Mexico; Valerie Bourassa (Grade 12) of Mont St-Grégoire, Qc; Charlotte Gervais (Grade 12) of Outremont, Qc; Ives-Hugo Lanoie (Grade 12) of Blainville, Qc; Christina Nash (Grade 11) of Newport, Vt.; and Eva Chen (Grade 10) of Brossard, Qc.
