2008-2009 SPARTANS GIRLS HOCKEY
Mike McNamara to coach girls hockey at Stanstead
Stanstead College is pleased to announce that veteran hockey coach Mike McNamara has returned to the school to take over the girls hockey program in 2008-2009.
From 1996 to 2007, Coach McNamara transformed the Stanstead senior boys hockey program into one of the finest in Quebec and New England. His record includes 11 consecutive ETIAC playoff championships and four AAESQ provincial championships. Coach McNamara also oversaw the development of an expanded schedule into New England and biennial showcase trips to Europe.
Prior to coming to Stanstead, McNamara coached for 14 years in Switzerland, Italy and Austria.
In 2007-2008, Coach McNamara took a sabbatical to coach professionally in Switzerland.
Coach Mac takes over from Adam Spirk, who is continuing his education in Montreal.
Besides overseeing the girls’ team and managing this winter’s 35-40-game schedule, Coach McNamara will also teach in the school’s Humanities Department.
“I’m thrilled that we will again benefit from Mike’s experience in the classroom and on the ice,” said Headmaster Michael Wolfe. “His willingness to take on the girls’ program is especially appreciated, as we’re eager to continue building on the momentum established by Coach Adam Spirk and Dugie Ross over the past few years.”
