Music
In The Regular Curriculum Again
One of the most exciting new developments at the
College in our opening year of the New Millennium was the reintroduction of Music
into the regular curriculum, after a break of almost half a century!
This, in addition to the existing opportunities for
individual tutoring that have been sustained over the past many years by Allyn
Harris and Peter Mendieta, is complemented by a recent growth in the choral
involvement both inside and outside the school. The strengthening of this
"musical intelligence" as part of a well-established Liberal Arts
Program, offers enrichment to the lives of all members of the Stanstead
Community in a multitude of ways. Now, all students in Grades 7 to 9
are part of a Music Program led by a well qualified, enthusiastic and energetic
teacher whose emphasis is on the instrumental acquisition, building towards
a full Band creation, as this area develops. As well-resourced and
suitably-located facility is promoting the expansion of music and musical
awareness into the Club, Choir, Community Service, Dramatic and other fields of
activity in the School. Its performance brings more contacts with other
"communities" increasing the enjoyment and use of our facilities as
well as building even stronger school spirit. The first effects of this process
have already been seen by those who were in close contact with Stanstead, last
year. We are all looking forward to even more musical experiences to add to the
Christmas Service, Baccalaureate, Assemblies, Choir performances, Cafe Cappuccino,
Variety Show, Chamber concerts and individual presentations.
