Five SC alumni joined the team along with 11 of our current students.  We also have four students from our partner school in Hanoi, the Olympia Schools. The Stanstead group is a diverse crew from Canada, China, Mexico, Vietnam, Sweden, Germany, and the USA.  Unified by a common purpose of improving the lives of others through education, the group has created a schedule filled with fun and games but also concentrated English skills development. Soft skills, such as teamwork, collaboration and project design and management, also shape the experience of the campers.

 

Stanstead students begin the day at 7:00 a.m. where they meet in their respective teams over breakfast. They take a 40-minute boat ride up the Saigon River to get to the island where camp begins promptly at 9:00 a.m.  With only a one-hour break for lunch, our Stanstead team works with students through various academic and athletic challenges until their dismissal at 4:00 p.m. 

 

The camp runs for two weeks, and Saturday, July 28, will be our closing ceremony—a celebration for the campers and their families for completing what we hope to be a sustainable desire and will to educate themselves and live fulfilling lives.
