Varsity Boys Win National Tourney

 

The varsity boys traveled to Upper Canada College in Toronto to play their first round-robin game Thursday night against Eastern Townships rivals Bishop’s College School. They secured their first win of the tournament with a final score of 4-2.  

Friday, they had a pair of games against Rothesay-Netherwood School and UCC and. They suffered their only loss in the tournament to RNS with a score of 1-2 but came out on top with a 4-3 win against UCC.

After the round-robin concluded, the varsity boys found themselves with a bye to the semi-finals. Saturday night, they faced Ridley College in what was an exhilarating game. After two periods of play the boys found themselves down 1-4. However, they were able to score five goals and come out with a 6-5 win over Ridley College. Chaka-Benjamin Ntumba-Muntu scored three in a row to begin the Spartans’ comeback with Jeremy Leroux scoring the game-winner.

The championship game was a rematch on Sunday against RNS. After three periods of battle, the varsity boys hockey team finished the game with a winning score of 4-3 to win the CPSHA championship title. Captain Liam Steele scored the game-winning goal 

Meanwhile, the varsity girls traveled to Boston to compete in the JWHL Playoff Tournament. On Friday, they played a single preliminary game against NAHA. Unfortunately, they could not beat their opponent and suffered a 1-4 loss.  

Saturday morning, the girls played in the semi-final against Balmoral Hall. They came out victorious with a 3-1 win. This would launch them to the championship game against NAHA on the Saturday night.  

The girls were down 0-1 after the first period. They were able to keep their chances alive, tie it up and take the lead. However, late in the third period NAHA answered back and forced an overtime period. In 3v3 overtime play, the Spartans suffered a heartbreak loss as NAHA scored and took the championship title. The final score was 2-3 NAHA.
