Winter Term Under Way

UPDATED: JANUARY 7
We sincerely hope that everyone had a relaxing and joyful break. Here at Stanstead College, we ran a successful holiday camp for approximately 20 students unable to return home for the break.

They enjoyed a number of activities, some Christmas-themed, such as cutting their own tree, with others simply about enjoying the Canadian winter, such as night skating along the linear path in Magog.

International students who traveled home for the break began returning to campus this week and have begun their mandatory 14-day quarantine in residence. Classes began online Thursday, January 7 for them as well as all domestic students, who will remain at home until Wednesday, January 20. There will be no classes that day as students move back into their rooms.

A reminder that, during this online period, students studying at home should limit their outside social activities and travel as much as possible.

On Wednesday, the Quebec government announced new restrictions to reduce the spread of the coronavirus in the province. These new measures will not, however, significantly change Stanstead College’s plans to return to in-person classes on January 21.

Classes are now taking place online and will continue until Tuesday, January 19. There will be no classes on Wednesday, January 20 to allow our international students (currently in quarantine on campus) to transition back into their residences and our domestic students to return to campus.

The only modest changes are the scheduled times for return to campus on January 20. For those students traveling by school bus from Montreal, the bus will leave Central Station promptly at 5:30 pm (new) followed by a stop at Dix-30 at 6:00 pm, arrival at Stanstead College around 7:30 pm.

In addition, parents dropping off their children on campus should do so at the following new times: Bugbee and Webster, between 1:00 pm and 3:30 pm; Davis and Cowen, between 3:30 pm and 6:00 pm. As was the case during pick-up at break, parents will not be allowed in the residences.

Before moving into residence, all students will need to report to the Student Centre immediately upon arrival for a health check with the school nurse.

The Quebec government has also imposed a night-time curfew across the province between 8:00 pm and 5:00 am between January 9 and February 8. We do not anticipate this affecting Stanstead College’s activities in any significant way.

Upcoming:

Term 1 report cards for Grades 7-11 will be available through the parent portal on Thursday, January 21. This report will cover all work completed from September until the end of December, including work packages provided to certain students over the holidays. More information on this report will be provided closer to the release date.

Clubs will resume once all students are back on campus on January 21. If students wish to change clubs, they may do so but should be commited to a club by the following Thursday, January 28.

We hope to run a modified Winter Carnival in February. Details to come.

We are looking forward to a productive, safe and fun term.
