Two Spartans Earn FAEQ Bursaries

Two Stanstead College Varsity Girls Spartans have been selected to receive $2,000 bursaries from the Quebec Foundation for Athletic Excellence (FAEQ).

Karel Prefontaine, Grade 10 from Gatineau, and Audrey McCutcheon, Grade 12 from St-Jean-Sur-Richelieu, were among 25 players selected and part of eight players pulled from the Team Quebec women’s program.

For the past 14 years, the FAEQ has selected 25 student-athletes based on their academic efforts as well as their athletic talents and achievements to be awarded a $2,000 bursary supported through the Montreal Canadiens Bursary Program. 

Prefontaine received an Academic Excellence Bursary. She has been playing on the varsity girls hockey team for two years. Last year, Prefontaine appeared in 54 games, accumulating 22 goals and 15 assists for a total of 37 points. After the first 2020-2021 academic term, she earned a place on the Head’s List, which is awarded to students achieving an overall average between 85% and 89.9%.

McCutcheon, received an Athletic and Academic Support Bursary. This year, she will be graduating Stanstead and will continue her athletic and academic career at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). McCutcheon has been with Stanstead since Grade 10. She has appeared in 118 games, accumulating 52 goals and 43 assists, for a total of 95 points. After the first 2020-2021 academic term, she earned a place on the Academic Honours list, which is awarded to students achieving an overall average between 80% and 84.9%.
