Campus Planned Updates

 

 

The Hockey Performance Centre is to be located in what is now the vehicle garage between the Amaron and W. John Mackay gyms. This 60-by-30-foot space will have skateable artificial ice, regulation boards and plexiglass, radar gun and readout sign, stick-handling machine, two shooting tarps, resistance machine and a skate-changing area. Construction on this new facility will begin in the coming weeks and is made possible through the generosity of a number of former players going back as far as 1954.

 

Vans currently in the garage will move to a new facility for vehicles and maintenance to be located in the old Stanstead College arena. Closed since 2011, the arena is currently under renovation to house maintenance, transportation and security departments.     

 

In the Pat Burns Arena, the College will be installing a new score clock, which will eventually include a digital screen to display instant replays and animations. This too has been made possible through the generous support of hockey alumni. There is also a plan to add synthetic grass in the off-ice practice area for the purpose of strength conditioning.

 

Looking ahead to the fall of 2022, a new health centre will be built slightly east of the existing structure, which has begun to show its age and will be demolished. In addition to examination rooms and offices for the nurses and school counselor, the new two-storey building will have living accommodations for two staff members plus an overnight nurse. There will also be separate overnight facilities for boys and girls.

 

On the horizon are plans for a junior girls residence. Initial thoughts are to have the new residence located close to where the current Health Centre is. This new residence would be home for all day and boarding junior girl students and would include living quarters for two house directors.
