Terry Fox Run 2021

Even with the pandemic, Stanstead College was able to run its annual Terry Fox Run last year. This year, we were back and able to gather for the traditional all-school photo before the run around campus.

The run takes place every year to raise funds for cancer research and to honour the legacy of Terry Fox, who in 1980 attempted to run across Canada on an artificial leg. Since his death in 1981, the Terry Fox Run has raised millions for research.

Stanstead’s race was three laps around campus. There was no prize for the fastest time. Instead, students and teachers were encouraged to run as many laps as they could.

Among the bantam boys, congratulations to Agustin Palacios, Noah Grenier, Liam Sumun, Gabriel Poitras who ran 12 laps.

For junior boys, honourable mention to Sandro Dupraz (14 laps), Zackary Maheu (14), Shun Hatano (15.25) and Jaxon Pierce (15.5). Top junior boy: Adam Larsson with 16.25 laps.

Junior girls honorable mentions: Jamie Arsenault, Annabelle Cormier and Ellie French with 6 laps and Annie Lamanthia with 9. With 11 laps, the top junior girl runner was Avah St-Pierre.

Among senior girls, honourable mention to Krystine Breton (9 laps), Crystal Lin (10 laps) and Gerda Kleinekampmann (10.25). Top senior girl: Lisa Patenaude with 11 laps.

Among the senior boys, honourable mentions to Logan Béasse with 12 laps each, Lorenzo Bono, Cédric Beauregard, Jérôme Sayeur and Benoit Forget with 15 each. Winners were Jack Lippmann, Antoine Rémillard and Chaka Ntumba-Munto with 16 each.

Finally, major salute to our school nurse, Sonia Perron, who ran 22 laps, the equivalent of a half marathon in 2 hours and 11 minutes! Bravo, Sonia!

On Friday, students contributed donations for the privilege of a free-dress day and in support of the Terry Fox Foundation.

Prior to the run, Varsity Boys Hockey Spartans coach Matt Thompson spoke to his team about alumnus and former Spartan Greg Lapointe (2019) who has been diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma. A number of students ran with a #6 on their shirt, Greg's number as a Spartan.
