Prep Girls Hockey

Hockey Weekend Update – March 11-13

Championship wins, heartbreak losses, and regular season play fueled this weekend’s Spartans Hockey. Varsity girls competed in the JWHL Playoff Tournament in Boston, Varsity Boys competed in the CPSHA Championship Tournament in Toronto and both prep teams held down the fort at home.

Varsity Boys and Girls

The varsity boys traveled to Upper Canada College for the CPSHA Championship Tournament, bringing home their first-ever national championship. The varsity girls, meanwhile, traveled to Boston to compete in the JWHL Playoff Tournament, losing in the championship final in OT. See our main story for details.

Prep Boys
The prep boys faced Collège Notre-Dame on Friday and Saturday. They had a strong showing Friday, winning 8-5. However, the boys kept it interesting on Saturday with a nail-biter overtime winner. The final score was 4-3 Spartans.

Sunday, the boys competed against Collège St-Anne. After two periods of back-and-forth play, the Spartans were able to seal the deal in the third period. The final score was 6-2 prep boys.
The prep boys play their final game of the season today at 4:45 against College Des Sources.

Prep Girls
After a week off from games, the prep girls had a good showing this weekend. They faced College Universel in a pair of games Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday the girls started off strong with an early goal in the first period from Ellie French. After three periods of play, the prep girls found the back of the net on 6 different occasions. College Universel was unable to score, and Stanstead goaltender Lana Peasley secured her shutout win for the weekend. The final score was 6-0 Stanstead.

Annie LaMantia started in net for the Spartans on Sunday. She faced 20 shots and had 18 saves for a 0.900 save percentage. For over two periods, the score remained 2-1 for Stanstead. However, after an exciting third period, the girls were able to outscore College Universel and finish with a 6-2 win.
