Five Varsity Girls Hockey Spartans to Attend Canada Games

Five Stanstead College varsity girls hockey players will compete for their respective provinces at the Canada Winter Games in Charlottetown this coming February.

Four girls will represent Quebec in the Female Under 18 division at the games: Béatrice Perron-Roy (F, Grade 12, Sherbrooke), Alexia Aubin (F, Grade 11, Lévis), Maxim Tremblay (F, Grade 11, Sherbrooke) and Arianne Leblanc (G, Grade 12, Repentigny).

The Spartans are the most-represented team in the 20-member roster, which also includes former Spartan Georgia Bailey of Sherbrooke, now at Northwood Academy.

Meanwhile, second-year Spartan Jamie Arsenault (F, Grade 10, Sackville) will represent New Brunswick at the games.

“The Canada Winter Games are a special event in that it only happens every four years. It is therefore a great honour for athletes to participate,” said James Rioux, Stanstead’s director of hockey operations. “Moreover, with the pandemic, the regular yearly U18 championship had been on hold, so this February will be a refreshing tournament for everyone involved.”

The Canada Winter Games will take place in Prince Edward Island from February 18 to March 5, 2023.

“We are all behind our girls and wish Arianne, Alexia, Maxim, Béatrice and Jamie a memorable stay in Prince Edward Island,” said Mr. Rioux. “Congratulations girls! Enjoy the moment.”
