New Junior Residence to be Named Wolfe House

In recognition of his exceptional service, including 18 years as head of school, Stanstead College’s new junior girls residence will be named in honour of Michael Wolfe.

Wolfe House is currently under construction and is expected to welcome its first students in the fall of 2023.

“Under Mike Wolfe’s leadership, Stanstead College has undergone one of the most significant periods of growth and expansion in its 150-year history,” said Board Chair Jonathan Cowen. “It seemed only appropriate – and in fact it was a unanimous board decision – that his name be attached to the junior girls residence. It will permanently recognize both his legacy and his many contributions to the success of Stanstead College and the lives of its students.”

The junior girls residence is currently being built along with a new wellness centre at an estimated of $7.5 million.

Mr. Wolfe will retire at the end of the current school year and will be the third-longest serving head in the school’s history.

In addition to being head of school, Mr. Wolfe served twice in the capacity of Director of Development/Advancement. The first time was in the early nineties as part of the 21st Century Campaign that saw the construction of Webster House. The second was two years in the early 2000s, prior to being appointed head in 2005.

Mr. Wolfe’s legacy also includes the construction of the Pat Burns Arena, the Mackay Gymnasium, Cowen House for Grade 12 students and soon a new junior girls residence and new wellness centre.  In addition, Mr. Wolfe expanded enrollment from new markets such as mainland China and helped foster a strong sense of philanthropy among these new constituents. The College is currently experiencing record enrollment.
Mr. Wolfe has also been a teacher, a coach, advisor, club supervisor and—between his stints as director of advancement—a member of the board of directors.

The junior girls residence will house girls in Grades 7 to 9 and is being built on the southern edge of campus.
