Top Academic Achievers Honoured

The first Academic Assembly of the year this past Monday honoured those students who had achieved academic excellence in their first term of school. For Grades 7 to 11, the first term runs from September to November, while for Grade 12s the term runs until the December break.

In addition to presenting pins and certificates to those who have earned a spot on the Academic Honours List, the Head's List and the Chair's List in their first term, the school also recognized the top academic averages in each grade. They were: Grade 7 – Clara Buck-Thompson; Grade 8 – Sarah Leasure; Grade 9 – Laurie Aubin; Grade 10 – Luke DeLaBruere; Grade 11 – Summer Wong; Grade 12 – Oscar Rosen. Students in the upper grades receive a Red Sweater in recognition of their performance.

Finally, Tuesday saw the presentation of the Black Sweater, which is given in recognition of exceptional performance across academics and athletics and is presented to a student-athlete who has earned a Major S award and whose term average is at least 80%. The recipient is chosen by the Program Directors, with consideration given to the candidates’ course level, academic course load and other school commitments.

With a Major S in soccer and an average of over 89% in a challenging program including two AP classes and three advanced courses in Physics, Chemistry and Math, the recipient of the Black Sweater for Term 1 is Madeline Lippmann.
