STEM Camp: Science, Technology, Engineering, Math and FUN!
What is STEM?
STEM is an educational program developed to prepare primary and secondary students for college and graduate study in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
STEM education keeps the curiosity alive behind every question and helps students realize how applying science and math can ease human lifestyle and solve problems facing our local communities as well as more global issues.
The Stanstead College STEM camp inspires students and fosters a love of critical thinking and learning that will last well beyond the summer and into future academic endeavours.
STEM is broken down into seven skill sets:
Learn and apply content
Interpret and communicate information
Engage in inquiry
Engage in logical reasoning
Collaborate as a team
Apply technology appropriately
About STEM Camp at Stanstead
Campers live on campus and are grouped according to their English-proficiency skills. New second-language learners will perfect their English while focusing on vocabulary and concepts, while native and advanced English speakers will delve into advanced activities.
The dedicated STEM curriculum will be supplemented by cultural excursions and activities both on and off campus. Students will learn about basic STEM concepts through discovery learning. Through indoor and outdoor laboratory experiences, they will develop problem-solving, observation, hypothesis formation and focus. Campers build confidence through trial and error, which is how knowledge is gained.
Students can also opt for an extended online component following the camp.
