Hockey Weekend Recap – October 22-24

This past weekend, Stanstead College hosted five hockey games at the Pat Burns Arena.
Varsity Boys Hockey
 
The varsity boys hockey team wasted no time demonstrating their offensive presence in their pair of games this past weekend. Eight players found the back of the net, with a total of 15 players recording at least one point.
 
Game 1 vs Mount Academy
 
Newcomer Raphael Tellier scored his first hat trick as a Spartan in the 6-3 win against Mount Academy. Coming in clutch with the game-winning goal for the team was none other than Grade 12 student Nathan Garnier, with assists from Chaka Muntu and Rihito Hamano. As a result of injuries on the team, Eli Young had the chance to contribute on the blue line for a solid effort in both games. Between the pipes, Benoit Forget faced 27 shots for a total of 24 saves to come out with the win.
 
Game 2 vs Ulysse Academy
 
Caleb MacDonald opened the scoring for the Spartans early in the first period against Ulysse Academy. Both teams battled to the final buzzer. However, the Spartans came out with a 7-5 win. Both Tellier and Leroux scored a pair of goals. Jack Treacy found the back of the net for his first goal of the season; with Tellier scoring the game winner. During the 60 minutes, Liam Dee made 19 stops out of 25 shots.

Varsity Girls Hockey
 
Stanstead College varsity girls hockey extended their winning streak to 9 on the weekend, going 3-0 against Balmoral Hall. The defence proved their offensive abilities with 5 goals for a total of 15 points for the weekend.
 
Game 1
 
The girls opened the weekend strong with a 7-1 win over Balmoral Hall. German student Svenja Voigt scored two goals and had two assists for a total of four points. In nets, Megane Pilon stayed strong, making 21 saves.
 
Game 2
 
Although there was a quick turnaround between the first and second game, the Spartans were able to skate away with a close 3-2 win. Alice Sauriol secured the win with the help of Camille Richard’s shot from the point. Goaltender Arianne Leblanc made 25 saves.
 
Game 3
 
An 8 am start did not faze this team at all. Voigt finished out her weekend with a hat trick and two assists. Linemate Emma Kreisz locked in two goals and two assists. Pilon faced 46 shots, stopping a total of 42 in her fifth win of the season and second win of the weekend.
