Anderson-Bailly 2019

Pat Drohan Girls MVP Trophy

Born May 16, 1947 in Chatham, Ontario, Mr. Drohan was an army “brat” who moved frequently during his youth. He attended high school at SMCS in Toronto, and completed his university studies at Waterloo and Western. His entire teaching career was spent at Gaspe Polyvalent School from 1972 until his retirement in 2007.

He taught mainly history and physical education and coached all sports but concentrated his efforts in boys and girls basketball. He also continued to coach basketball at GPS after his retirement from teaching. Mr. Drohan was one of the founders of the Anderson-Bailly Tournaments, with GPS being the first host school in 1973. He participated in 35 of the first 37 tournaments and in 2010 marked his 36th year coaching at the A&B. His GPS girls won the Bailly in 1980 and his boys won the Anderson in 1999. In recognition of his dedication to high school sports and to this tournament in particular, the AAESQ decided to create and name The Pat Drohan MVP Trophy in his honour. It is awarded annually to the most valuable boy player in the Anderson Tournament.
