Waterloo Math Contest winners

Lisa Smith, head of our Math/Science Department, recently announced the top achievers among our students writing the annual University of Waterloo Math Contest.

This year, 77,000 participants from 1,600 schools wrote the contest in Grades 9 through 11. To be recognized, students must be in the top 25% of all students who wrote the contest.

In the Pascal (Grade 9) contest, Stanstead’s medalist was Shu Shu, with certificates of distinction going to Naomi Lin, Andrew Bimm, Simon Couture, Esteban Navarro and Dingyi Wang

In the Cayley (Grade 10) contest, the medalist was Jiyang “Roy” Lyu. But not just that: Roy earned the top score in Quebec and was in the top 80 overall. Roy was invited to two math camps as a result of his near perfect score, one at the University of Waterloo, and the second through the Canadian Mathematical Society at the University of Ottawa.

Certificates of distinction went to Oscar Haase and Matthew Campbell.

In the Fermat (Grade 11) contest, our medalist was Wenxuan "Michael" Xiang, with certificates of distinction awarded to Patrick Young, Alexander Campbell, Van Pham.
