University of Waterloo Math Contest Awards

On February 25, 104 Stanstead students in Grades 9-11 participated in the annual University of Waterloo math contests. (Unfortunately for the students in Grade 7, 8 and 12, the Gauss and the Euclid contests have been cancelled for this year.)
 
The Pascal, Cayley and Fermat contests were written by a total of 69,718 students worldwide. The top three scores per school count for a team score, which is then compared to other schools in our zone, the province of Quebec and Canada as a whole. As well, certificates of distinction are awarded to any student who places in the top 25% of all contestants.

The following are our school winners.

Grade 9
29 of our students in Grade 9 wrote the Pascal Contest. The team tied for 4th in the zone and finished 42nd in the province out of 92 schools.

Earning a certificate of distinction: Eric Cui

Medalists: tied with the top score of 124 (out of a possible 150): Antoine Remillard and Lucy Wang. Their scores had them tied for 128th in Quebec and in the top 10% of all students who wrote.

Grade 10
33 students wrote the Cayley contest. Our team finished 2nd in the zone and 14th in the province out of 95 schools.

Earning certificates of distinction: Max Pedicelli, Jack Lippman, (Cynthia) Zhang, Tianzhen (Jason) Shao, Yuchen (Leo) Shi, Zheuan (Leo) Li and Xiayao (Joel) Xu.

The medalist in Grade 10 had a score of 132. This score placed him 3rd in the zone and 13th in Quebec. As well, he finished 317th OVERALL. Congratulations to Yuzhe (Kevin) Shi.

Grade 11
42 students wrote the Fermat Contest. Our team score placed us 3rd in the zone and 19th in the province out of 94 schools.

Certificates of distinction are awarded to: Andrey Afanasyev and Andrew Bimm. And the medalist in Grade 11 is Anqi Peng. Anqi’s score placed her 42nd in the province of Quebec and in the top 1000 overall.
