SG Basketball @ College Mont Notre Dame de Sherbrooke
Another day, another away trip. This time about half a mile from where we had been the night before. But this game was against the top team in D4 Div A, who at that point had only lost one game in their season to La Poudriere - the top team in our Div B.
Our last challenging game had been against La Poudriere where we got it closer at SC than it had been in Drummondville. We hoped that this CMND game would show similar growth and tenacity. We certainly started in this right direction, but not right away. We scored the first basket of the game, and then they went on a 12-0 run. We countered with a 13 -0 run of our own, then we each traded a basket to end the first quarter with a nice close result in our advantage. I am sure that this took them back a step or two. The SC scorers according to the unofficial scoring show 18 in the first period… Clara with 7, 4 from SarahL, 3 from Miranda and 2 each from Julia and Olivia? 1Q Score: SC 16 - CMND 14
In the second quarter we scored 3? buckets on the running score but only 4 points were assigned individually to Evanny and Erika. Anyway, at the half it was once again a two-point difference, this time in their favour. 2Q Score: SC 22 - CMND 24
They looked to be ready to take over in the start of the third quarter with six more points in a row, but the Spartans followed with seven straight points of our own. So at that point of the third quarter, it was a one-point difference in the game at 30-29 in their favour. Again, the scoring is suspect, as we scored nine total points in the third but only six were attributed – 3 to Erika, 2 to Clara and 1 to Miranda. 3Q Score: SC 31 - CMND 39
We were still in the running with an eight-point deficit to start the final period. However, they started the fourth quarter with a 12-0 run and bang the score difference quickly became 20 points at 31-51. We rallied and competed toward the end, scoring 7 ourselves to their additional 9 the rest of the way. The unofficial total points were well spread…Erika led with 9, Clara with 7 (all from the first half), SarahL, Miranda and Julia with 4 each, 2 for Kimmy (both free throws) plus Olivia and Evanny also with 2, and 1 point for Gawon! Final score: SC 38 - CMND 60
