Baccalaureate & Prize-Giving 2022

Baccalaureate returned to Centenary Church on Saturday, June 18 after a two-year absence, with students in Grade 11 and 12 receiving diplomas and selected students receiving prizes of academic, extracurricular and athletic merit.

No one student dominated the prize list this year. Head prefects Sofia Paradis and Rosemary Lefebvre shared the Pitcher Prize, the school's top award, presented to the student who has exerted the greatest influence for good. Sofia also earned the Allan Family Friendship Cup, presented to a student who has attended Stanstead College for at least one year and who has shown exceptional friendship, camaraderie, kindness, and support to all members of the school community across age, gender, language, cultural, and other boundaries. Rosemary also won the Cowen House Award.

The Wilder Shield, presented to the junior student with the most positive influence, went to Iain Olsen. Iain was also named the junior boy athlete of the year.

In a rare occurence, Laura Bellini named both the senior girl athlete of the year and recipient of the Trueman-McFadyen Award, presented to the three-varsity graduating girl Major "S" recipient with the highest overall academic average. She also won the Grade 12 Psychology Prize and Biology Prize.

Jorge Correia was the senior male athlete of the year, while Aksel Jalojarvi was the top student athlete with the highest average.

The Birks Silver Medal for the highest average in Grade 12 went to William Tario. Lucy Wang earned the Governor General's Medal for highest Grade 11 average.

Other high class averages were Summer Wong (Grade 10), Luke DeLaBruere (Grade 9), Rosalie Tremblay (Grade 8) and Noah Grenier (Grade 7).

Guest speaker was Andrew Lippi, Class of 2009. Mr. Lippi attended Stanstead College from Grades 10-12 where he was a member of the varsity basketball and rugby teams for all three years. He received the Everest Award as the most improved student in Grade 12. After Stanstead College, Mr. Lippi earned his BA and MS from Lynn University in 2013 and 2014. At Lynn University's 2013 Commencement, Mr. Lippi was the valedictorian and student speaker and received the school’s Presidents Award. Since then, Mr. Lippi has worked in numerous positions, and currently as COO, at Watson Institute, a reimagined model of education that accelerates the careers of next-generation innovators, leaders and entrepreneurs. He is also a member of the Stanstead College Council of Trustees.

Mr. Lippi encouraged the graduates to find their mentor to help build on and contribute to their strengths. He spoke of how Head of School Mike Wolfe had become a mentor while Mr. Lippi was at the College and how that mentorship continues to this day.
