Hearts 1, Rain 0 at Homecoming 2025

Despite the rain, alumni from far and wide descended on campus Saturday for Homecoming 2025. Student volunteers under tents, umbrellas and ponchos registered visitors and directed them to activities happening around school all day, including an art auction by student Mo H., an archival display, campus tours, rugby and alumni hockey games.
The day opened with the dedication of a tree to former board chair Jonathan Cowen and wife Judith, both of whom remain College trustees. The Cowens have been loyal and generous supporters of Stanstead College for decades and were key in the vision and implementation of many of the physical changes on campus over that time. In 2019, the new Grade 12 residence, Cowen House, was named in their honour.

The day ended with a tribute in the Pat Burns Arena to former hockey coach Mike McNamara. Mr. McNamara was integral in building first the boys and then the girls hockey programs at Stanstead College. In 2000, he coached the senior boys team to their first provincial high school hockey championship since 1958. Many members of that 1999-2000 team were on hand to salute their coach and to participate in a varsity boys alumni hockey game.

There were also a varsity girls alumnae hockey game as well as a third open game for any former players.
The arena was also the site of an unveiling of a Wall of Honour listing former student-athletes who have continued their hockey journeys at junior, college and professional levels.

Finally, the College officially opened Dahms House, new faculty housing located in the renovated Anglican manse across from the College and donated by the Dahms family (Vivian 2023, Andrew 2025).

While all this was going on, the senior boys rugby team faced off in a downpour against Westwood High School. And of course old friends visited and caught up about their time at Stanstead.
