SG Basketball vs Le Ber

Our final league game of the year had little or no consequence as, win or lose, we have established second-place in our division and will face the first-place team in the other division in the playoff semi-final on February 22. Nevertheless, we wanted to play for a win and to give lots of people good minutes to end the season.  We started well with Julia leading us with 8 (including a 2/2 free throws and a 3pt. basket) and her buddy Erika with three buckets for 6 points.  1Q Score: SC 14 - LB 7

In the second quarter, we scored only 4 points, all by Julia. So, in a weird coincidence, both teams had all scoring in the first half done by only two players. For us it was Silk (6) and Spice (12).  2Q Score: SC 18 - LB 11

The third quarter scoring was 12-7 in our favour. The scoresheet, however, had only 10 points assigned individually so likely those “ghost Julia points” were probably missing again as she was on fire all night. Scoring from Clara – 4, Julia – 2 or 4, Miranda and SarahL – 2 each.   3Q Score: SC 30 - LB 18

Clara led the way in the fourth quarter with 6 points and Erika added 2.  The unofficial total points were: Julia with 16, Clara with 10 (all in the second half), Erika with 8, and Miranda and SarahL with 2 each. Next up, semifinal playoff versus College Mont Notre Dame at La Ruche in Magog on Sunday, February 22 at 10:45am. Final score: SC 38 - LB 25

And a closing comment which struck me after writing more than once that the scorekeepers at another school were young students who were nice, well-meaning but unprepared for the technical nature of the job. It makes me so proud of how we have, going back many years ago right up to today, made it a priority within our athletic program. Going back to the origins of the Skittles Crew, we have always had a group of dedicated adults and students work together providing a professional experience for coaches, players and referees. Through faculty such as Denney, Simard, Reynolds, Gagnon, Spirk, Blairs, Koussaie, Scrabbi and a long list of students (most recently Karyme getting celebrated last season) who gave years of volunteer support to the program a big THANKS! It is much appreciated, hopefully by all those around the basketball program as players, coaches and fans.
