Laforge wins Canadiens Scholarship; Spartans Drafted to Q

Varsity Girls Hockey Spartan Maélie Laforge (Grade 12, Val-d’Or, Quebec) is one of the recipients of this year’s Montreal Canadiens Scholarship, presented this past Monday by the Aléo Foundation. The scholarships, totalling $75,000, are presented to elite, college and university hockey players who have distinguished themselves over the past year.

Maélie received one of two RSEQ college recruitment scholarships valued at $3000, given to college- or university-level hockey student-athletes who have distinguished themselves on the ice, in their studies, and in their communities.

Maélie is a third-year Spartan who was a member of this past year’s gold-medal Team Quebec at the Canada Games in Newfoundland. She is expected to attend Cegep Limoilou in the fall.

In addition to her hockey success, Maélie was recently awarded the Roger Marino MVP Trophy for senior girls rugby, the only two-time winner of this award. Maélie also had a role in this year’s school play.
