Student artist Mo Han, Grade 11, mounted a solo exhibition during Homecoming Saturday and raised $2680 to help fund art supplies and equipment for the school as well as future student art projects. In a silent auction, Mo sold six paintings in all. Nine more are still available through an online auction running until June 17 at 6 pm ET.
Mo lived in Beijing and Shanghai before moving to Canada at the age of 11. She began her journey with oil painting at age 13. She is deeply passionate about this medium because it allows her to convey a wide range of emotions through its rich colours and infinite possibilities for expressive strokes.
"For me, art is a language of the soul, a means to express emotions and secrets that words often fail to capture,” says Mo. “It offers a refuge for those of us who struggle to articulate our inner worlds, becoming a silent release for the unspoken.”
Earlier this year, Mo created a painting over a lunch period as a gift to a group of visiting Canadian Accredited Independent Schools admissions agents. Having pre-painted the cafeteria as a background, Mo quickly added the guests as they ate. The painting was then photographed and the image presented to the visitors prior to their departure.
Mo’s work also appears in school hallways along with that of other student artists.
