Congratulations to Team Quebec, which included eight Stanstead College Girls Hockey Spartans, on their championship win over Team Atlantic — and yet another Spartan! — at this weekend’s U18 National Championships. This was Quebec’s first-ever win in the tournament and Atlantic’s best-ever finish.
Representing Quebec at the Newfoundland tournament November 2-8 were (from varsity) Rosalie Tremblay, Laurie Aubin, Zoé Charland, Maélie Laforge, Emilie Labonté as well as (from prep) Elizabeth Bélanger, Éloïse Gagné and Elizabeth Papineau.
Chanelle Ouellette (prep) of New Brunswick played in the final for Team Atlantic.
Also in the tournament was Dior Stringer (varsity) representing Saskatchewan.
After an Atlantic first-period powerplay goal, Stanstead’s Zoé Charland tied it up for Quebec, followed by the eventual game winner in the second by team captain and tournament MVP Rosalie Tremblay.
Quebec had earned silver nine times before in this tournament.
“It is the best feeling ever. I have never felt this way before; [winning gold] for the first time is something truly special,” Rosalietold Hockey Canada. “Everyone of us worked our butts off, no matter our role. Even if some played less, we all cheered each other on and brought energy however we could. Hearing our fans when I scored was something amazing. We have so much support here and back home in Quebec.”
Rosalie had five goals and two assists in the tournament, while teammate Laurie Aubin was two and two. Zoé Charland had two goals and one assist for Team Quebec. Elisabeth Bélanger, Éloïse Gagné and Maélie Leforge supplied an assist each.
Chanelle Ouellette scored a single goal for Team Atlantic.
This was Rosalie’s third U18 Team Quebec appearance and Maélie’s second.
