Personal Best for Sumun at Nationals
Grade 11 student Liam Sumun earned a 7th-place finish in the men’s 400M last weekend at the Canadian Indoor Track & Field Championships in Toronto, earning a personal best in the process.
In the U18 division, Liam ran a time of 51.77, a half second off his previous best of 52.26.
“My mindset going into the race was really good,” said Liam. “Normally, I’m super nervous, and that was a problem last year. The entire season I as pushing myself but coming up disappointed.”
This time, Liam was calm but excited to run.
Liam also recently earned 3rd place in 200M at the Quebec regional competition with a time of 24.3.
Liam started out at Stanstead as a cross-country runner, winning the MVP trophy in 2024 and co-winning in 2025. He now focuses on sprint and competes with the school’s track-and-field team.
His next goal is to make Team Quebec, which would qualify him for nationals next year. He also hopes to compete in track at university.
