Five Spartans picked in QMJHL Draft

Malik L’Italien (Grade 10, Montreal, Que.) was picked third overall in the QMJHL draft Friday by the Halifax Mooseheads. Malik is a first-year Varsity Boys Spartan and the highest selected student-athlete in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League. He is also the highest pick Spartan in school history.

Also this weekend, Liam Armit (Grade 10, Gatineau, Que) was picked up by Baie-Comeau Drakkar in the third round, 50th overall. In round 4, Charles Généreux (Grade 10, Lorraine, Que.) was selected 59th overall by the Chicoutimi Saguenéens. Alexis Lavoie (Grade 10, Sherbrooke., Que.) went in the 9th round, 160th overall, also to Chicoutimi, while Parker Banks (Conception Bay South, Nfld) was 191st overall in the 11th round to the Sherbrooke Phoenix.

All four of these boys were members of the Stanstead prep boys hockey team.

In total, there were 12 rounds and 219 players drafted out of the 2009 birthyear across Quebec, the Maritimes and eastern United States. Six Spartans were eligible this year.

“The 2025 QMJHL draft was incredibly positive for the Stanstead hockey program,” said Stanstead’s Director of Hockey Operations James Rioux. “Malik going third overall was historic, and combined with four of our prep boys being drafted as well is simply amazing news. Malik, Liam, Chares, Alexis and Parker are outstanding student-athletes and ambassadors for Stanstead. We are proud of their achievements, and I am particularly thankful for the coaches, teachers and staff who worked with them throughout their journey.”
