Grandparents' Day Biggest Turnout Yet

This year’s Grandparents’ Day at Stanstead College was the biggest yet, with roughly 55 guests arriving on campus this past Wednesday to tour the campus, visit classes and spend time with their grandchildren.

This was the third edition of the event, which is designed to celebrate the special relationship between students and their grandparents, some of whom were visiting the school for the very first time, coming from as far away as Texas, California and Saskatchewan, while others arrived from just down the street.

In welcoming the guests, Head of School Suzy McDonald pointed out that unique nature of this relationship and urged grandparents to use that connection to learn what their grandchildren liked about Stanstead College – or even what they didn’t care for so much.

“Today, you’ll get a glimpse into the daily experiences, the friendships, and the vibrant spirit that make Stanstead special,” said Director of Advancement Jesse McRae. “You’ll share in moments that your grandchildren will remember for years to come. Thank you for being part of our extended family, and for your continued support. Let’s enjoy this day together and make it memorable!”

After pairing up with their grandchildren, the visitors toured campus and sat in on some classes. They then returned to the student centre for student presentations on the Model UN, the Duke of Edenborough Program, Café Cappuccino and the school play. There was also a musical performance and discussions about art at Stanstead and the roommate experience.

Grandparents’ Day also saw the opening of the new McEvoy Vocal Room in the Pierce Hall Music Department.

“We enjoyed it so much from our first greeting, to the guided tour by the grandchildren, the attendance in class, the students talking about their journeys, the band, the kitchen staff that prepared a wonderful meal for all of us, the faculty members who gave of their time and last but not least the book on the history of Stanstead College,” wrote Suzanne Lessard, grandmother to Cole and Hailey. “Never lose sight of those values you all hold close to your heart, as they seem to be passed on to the students.”

Following lunch in the dining hall, the grandparents said their goodbyes. They will all be invited back next year. If you missed it, please write to advancement@stansteadcollege.com to reserve your spot for 2027!
